County Positions Community to Receive Benefits Through Emergency Declaration

Commissioners declare emergency

Churchill County Commissioners voted to declare a state of emergency on March 17.

“This declaration is intended to be a proactive measure related to health threats of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and allow Churchill County access to funding resources through state and federal emergency agencies to benefit the community,” said Commission Chair Pete Olsen.

Currently the county has not been notified of any positive test results for COVID-19, but is encouraging its citizens to practice social distancing, remain home if sick, limit travel, and practice public health measures related to personal hygiene. These measures will remain in place until further notice.

According to the State Department of Public Health, 12 people in the county have been tested to date and 11 results came back as negative, with the final result pending.
