American Red Cross Certifications
First Aid/CPR/AED Courses
Standard First Aid helps participants provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical care can take over. Situations may include disease transmission precautions, caring for bleeding, wounds, immobilizing muscle, bone and joint injuries, and sudden illness.
Community CPR/AED helps participants use basic precautions for preventing disease transmission, prevent, recognize and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies with the use of automated external defibrillators (AED’s) until advanced medical help can take over. This course is ideal for employees, members of the community, organizations, teachers, childcare employees, parents, and grandparents.
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Providers teaches those with a duty to act the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of AED’s. Professional rescuers learn the above skills, as well as two-rescuer CPR, how to use a resuscitation mask, and a bag-valve-mask. This course is ideal for public safety personnel, lifeguards, emergency responder’s, first aid station workers, students at police, fire & rescue academies, health care professionals, and athletic trainers.

Water Safety Instructor
This American Red Cross course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming & Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants` progress. Participants must be 16 years old and will gain certification in Fundamentals of Instructor Training and as a Water Safety Instructor. This course authorizes instructors to teach swimming lessons from the Learn-to-Swim Program Levels 1-6, Basic Water Rescue, water safety outreach presentations and Parent & Child Aquatics.

Lifeguard Training
This American Red Cross course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illness until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrive and take over. Pre-requisites: Must be 15 yrs old and pass the pre-course of 1) swim 300yds continuosly using front crawl and breaststroke, 2) swim 20yds, surface dive 7-10ft, retrieve a 10lb object, swim 20yds back to starting point and exit the water in 1 minute, 40 seconds. Certification includes Lifeguard Training/First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Oxygen, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

Lifeguard Management
This American Red Cross course provides lifeguard supervisors with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage lifeguards and create an environment that keeps patrons, lifeguards, and the aquatic facility safe. The course covers the responsibilities of a lifeguard supervisor, the selection and training of lifeguards, team building, and principles of injury prevention, risk management and emergency-response planning. This course includes a participant’s manual and certification card upon successful completion of the course. This certificate does not expire.

Lifeguarding Instructor
This American Red Cross course trains instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Attendant, Lifeguard Management, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission, and Basic Water Rescue courses. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with GuardStart, Water Safety Presentations, Waterfront Lifeguarding, and Waterpark lifeguarding. Participants must be 17 years old and upon successful completion will receive certifications including re-certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid; become certified in Fundamentals of Instructor Training, Lifeguard Training Instructor, Administering Oxygen, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
